Based in the Yuen Long District, “Nature-link Senior Leaders Project” adopts an innovative 'Learn–Practise–Inherit' strategy to train senior citizens as 'Nature-link Senior Leaders'. By mastering green skills such as ecological conservation and tree monitoring, participants play an active role in protecting Tai Lam Country Park—the 'backyard' of Yuen Long. The initiative promotes active ageing through innovative approaches, redefining retirement as a starting point for 'Nature-based Living, Life Enjoyment, and Meaningful Contribution' that supports Hong Kong’s sustainable development. This enhances personal wellness and resilience, allowing seniors to achieve a fulfilling silver age. Furthermore, the project fosters social cohesion and social connection by facilitating intergenerational harmony. Our senior leaders visit schools and the community to share their experience, while guiding young people to create artificial animal homes, which will be placed in the urban green spaces for local wildlife, extending their impact on the environment. Through this collaboration, we reconstruct social capital and create age-friendly neighbourhoods. By contributing to local ecological conservation, we strengthen community support and achieve a sustainable future for both our environment and society.
